A1: We used it to hold everything from a wardrobe while we were replacing the wardrobe and decorating the room. The tubes are strong - they won't bend.

A4: The click locks are not permanent you can adjust the height of the rail. The top bar can be removed then the sidebars can fold down to the bottom for storage. It is a very good rail and holds the clothes nicely, I would recommend it.
